Mighty Righteous Music is making a purpose-filled entrance into the God Inspired music production and publishing arenas. Bishop Rickey Coates in launching MRM with his son Richard, Jr. brings more than 40 years of relatable entertainment industry experience to this endeavor. Additionally, Bishop Coates’ brings more than twenty years of Christian ministry leadership to this vehicle.
Rickey has contributed to the launch and development of some of the industry's most talented singers and musicians over the years. Fame Enterprises was a talent booking and development launch platform Rickey Coates and Ike Nelson started with just a few classified newspaper ads in the early 1970's. This paved the way for Shirley Brewer Garden and Lois Harvin to perform and record as members of Stevie Wonder’s backup group (Wonder Lover).
Rickey invested considerable time, talent, and personal resources while becoming proficient in talent development, songwriting, record producing; manufacturing and marketing. In the mid-seventies he partnered to form Sunlight Records with songwriter Leroy Green who later wrote the chart topping ‘Disco Inferno’. While attending college to further his music making abilities Coates enhanced his stage and studio skills by co-writing and producing for a self-contained Philadelphia based contemporary jazz fusion group named TUFF.
His industry experience and new found musical know-how prove to be helpful in forming UJIMA Records, an African American cultural awareness record label. Through a collaborative effort the first release ‘Our Kwanzaa Song’ gained radio play in a number of cities. It offered a simplified musical explanation of the celebration's seven principles which helped to promote the Kwanzaa holiday. I.D.T.K. –
(“I didn’t Know That”) an audio documentary was Ujima Records’ next progressive project. It presented little known historical and cultural African and African American experiential facts dating from ancient times up to the 1960’s. That project gained widespread recognition in cultural, scholarly and urban community circles.
In 2013 after years of solid devotion to serving the Lord Jesus Christ through church ministry Bishop Coates began investing a portion of his time working on new gospel music and updating his recording skills. In 2016 he began re-structuring Coates Music Publishing and laying the groundwork for the launch of Mighty Righteous Music. In 2018 our production team completed two tracks for our Coates Music Publishing catalog. The objective is to have some of today's most gifted artists perform our gospel and other God Inspired selections that's intended to nourish the souls of listeners and help draw them to the Lord Jesus Christ. In 2020 MIGHTY RIGHTEOUS MUSIC began re-mixing and presenting never released recordings from the (Vintage Collection). 2021 has unlocked a whole new wave of creativity and excitement with our newest recording 'WE WORSHIP YOU' performed by Absolute Faith Project due for release on December 7th 2021.
